Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, law maker for Assin Central has been touring parts of the country to win the support of NPP delegates. With the New Patriotic Party' s mini congress coming up in August, all the aspiring flagbearers have been lacing their boots for what many will believe will be a tight contest. The ten candidates who have been cleared to contest are Mahamudu Bawumia, Francis Addai Nimoh, Joe Ghartey, Alan Kyerematen, Kojo Nsafoah, Akoto Afriyie, Kennedy Agyapong, Kwabena Agyapong, Boakye Agyarko and Konadu Apraku.
While addressing delegates at Lambussie in the Upper West Region, Kennedy Agyapong boldly told them that he is the best person to lead the NPP into the next general elections. According to Kennedy, none of the aspiring flagbearers has the ability to beat John Mahama aside himself. He charged the delegates to give him the chance so he defeats and retires Mahama in 2024.
Kennedy opined that he knows the weakness of Mahama and will use those flaws to defeat Mahama. Kennedy cited two things he seeks to deploy to beat Mahama. According to him, the first weapon of destruction is using Mahama' s past against him. Kennedy explained that Mahama has an unpleasant past as president and Ghanaians are not ready to forget how Mahama drove the country into a ditch.
Kennedy mentioned that aside him Mahama can easily say Bawumia and Alan were also part of the government that took Ghana to the IMF and use their past against them.
Kennedy notes that he hasn' t been part of the current government and so has no past that Mahama can use.
Interestingly, Kennedy mentioned that the next thing he will use to his advantage is his ability to create jobs and build industries. According to Mr. Agyapong even without power he has been able to create employment for many Ghanaians as compared to Mahama who did little for his own northern people after being in power for many years. Kennedy pointed out a number of factories he has built and called on the delegates to give him the chance to do more when he becomes president.
