Ghana is less than 18 months from the next major elections. The ruling New Patriotic Party intends to break the 8- year term normally given to political parties while the opposition National Democratic Congress aspire to win the seat of government that has eluded them in the last two elections. Both political parties have their strongholds when it comes to voting patterns. Many are thus of the view that floating voters will be the deciding factor in the 2024 elections.
Afia Pokua, popular called Vim Lady, has spoken about the next elections and how floating voters will determine the fate of the country. According to Afia Pokua, every Ghanaian must be a floating voter because that category are the ones who are seriously interested in the growth of the country. She mentioned that a floating voter can change the mind any time as long as the government of the day fails to deliver on her promises.
Afia mentioned that the swing regions of Central, Western and Greater Accra regions as the ones who cannot be swayed into doing partisan politics because their votes can change on any day. Afia cited Ledzokuku, Adenta, Krowor as constituencies in the Greater Accra that are interested in progress and so easily kick out MPs they feel are not performing. Afia used her own constituency, Amansie Central in Ashanti Region as an example and questioned why they always vote for the NPP despite the fact that the NPP haven' t even constructed 1km asphalt road for them for many years now. She also cited Okoe Boye that despite all the work he did for Ledzokuku as not being enough to be retained by the constituents.
Afia insisted that this can' t happen in Ledzokuku or Krowor because the people would have voted for another party and even made the MP lose. Afia said she has done everything possible to make her people see reason that development is needed but the people still keep voting for the NPP. It can be recalled that in the last elections of 2020, Amansie Central voted massively for the NPP by giving Akufo- Addo over 65% of votes.
Afia called on Ghanaians to be wise, rather than taking entrenched positions in politics and think about the progress that their constituencies need. She charged Ghanaians not to be like her constituency who have stuck to one party despite not seeing any developments.
