Students at BNTC have levelled allegations of misconduct against the school's principal in relation to the administration of the educational establishment.
Students wrote a letter to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) on July 17, 2023. In the letter, the students state that, Students in this school are denied registration due to personal reasons by the principal and not by the council's rules, which even tutors in the school do not support. This letter was sent to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the NMC. It has been brought to our attention that the council has requirements that must be met by students before they may be registered to take an external test.
One of them requires that you have a cumulative grade point average of at least 1.5 or higher or pass all of your classes. Because they have one D on their record, students who have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of even 2.0, 3.00, or above are not permitted to be registered in our school.
These students are required to continue their education for an additional year, during which they will study alongside their junior peers, pay the same amount of tuition, and take the same number of classes as before. However, even if they achieve a grade of C in one class but a grade of D in another, they will not be allowed to register for the subsequent year. As if all of that weren't bad enough, the school has refused to provide these students the opportunity to retake their exams in order to prove that they are qualified for registration.
A student who is not demoted but who is also not allowed to be registered will nevertheless be required to spend another year's worth of school fees simply to write one paper in order to be registered, despite the fact that this could have been organised for them to write. In addition, we consider this to be a method of robbing the kids.
We are also followed and beaten with sticks by the principal, who takes the law into his own hands. This makes us unhappy, which is what led to the intervention of the Ghana health service and the NMC.
The pupils are appealing to the Ghana health service and the National Medical Council (NMC) to take action in the best interest of the educational establishment as well as the students in order to put a stop to the unlawful behaviour of the principal.
