The news from some sources have disclosed that a man from Nigeria by name Ernest Nnajuiba Ukechukwu have been busted at the Kotoka International Airport in possession of Narcotics.
After his arrest, the agents arranged him before an Accra based High Court and he has been found guilty with the possession of cocaine. He was charge with the possession of Narcotics.
An Accra High Court has convicted Ernest Nnajuiba Ukechukwu, a Nigerian national living in Brazil, to ten years in prison for the possession and attempted importation of cocaine into Ghana.
The hard substance of Narcotics was about 16568.83 grams. The cocaine were seized by the Narcotics Control Commission agents at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The court sentenced him to ten years with hard labor and a $10,000 fine. He will spend an additional three (3) years in prison if the fine is not paid as directed by the court. The sentence will be carried out simultaneously and he will serve his jail term.
Meanwhile, On the same day as the sentencing, the Narcotics Control Commission inspectors destroyed the seized hard substance of cocaine.
The narcotics shipment was destroyed completely in front of the Accra High Court registrar, state prosecutors, and the defense attorney.
According to the Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020 (Act 1019), it is unlawful and punishable by law to possess, use, or transport illegal substances without a valid prescription.
In its statement, the Narcotics Control Commission reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public safety by adhering to its responsibility to protect people from the use and trafficking of illegal drugs to endanger the general public and the lives of people.
These drugs are destroying the lives of people and anyone caught with Narcotics will not be spared but will face the full force of the law. We will make sure that this illegal drugs don't get into our country.
