Gomoa Fetteh: Traditional rulers seek government assistance to upgrade CHPS camp

Residents of Gomoa Fetteh in the central region have expressed concern over the condition of their only Community Health Plan and Service (CHPS).

This center,
which serves as the primary health care center for more than a thousand people, lacks essential facilities such as laboratories and birthing centers. Apart from this, there is no accommodation for the workers making it difficult for the health workers to providequality health services.

The poor condition of the roadsconnecting the city to other institutions, residents say, poses additional challenges for patients seeking referral.Gomoa Fetteh community is located in Gomoa East district, which is one of the rapidly developing districts in the central region.

Despite the central region'shigh population density, health infrastructure remains limited, especially in communities like Gomoa Fetteh. According to residents, Gomoa Fetteh's only CHPS complex faces significant challenges in providing quality health care to the community. The lack of a laboratory hampers the ability to perform the necessary tests for patients. In addition, the lack of proper birthing facilities forces the establishment to resort to building structures to meet the needs of birthing.

Patients who want to be taken to a large health facility face a difficult task, walking along the rough and dusty roads that connect Gomoa Fetteh to nearby villages such as Kasoa. The situation is aggravated by the lack of adequate accommodation for workers.

Healthcare workers struggle with movement every day, which affects their performance and availability. According to local media officer George Essuman, the lack of equipment makes it difficult to provide health care.

"For
us, we rely on the people, and it is at their request that we work. The company needs expansion and we are getting a lot of cases asking us to expand the company into medical facilities. The biggestchallenges we face are the lack of laboratories, study roomsand accommodation for staff,” said George Essuman. The Cultural Council of Gomoa Fetteh pioneered the construction of a three-roombungalow to accommodate the company's employees. They have done renovations to improve the usability of the company as a whole. Speakingat the launch of the Ahorbaa Kese programme, Gomoa Fetteh chief Nana Abor Attah IIsaid the planning committee has promised to build a workers' office and called on the government to provide support.

“The festival planning committee will startconstruction of bungalows, which will go a long way in supporting the industry. Our road network is also a challenge and this is hindering thedevelopment of the park. We need government support for this," said Nana Abor Attah. Local traditional authorities lamented the lack of government support, pointing to the urgent need to improve health facilities in Gomoa Fetteh.
