In preparation for the special delegates conference that will take place on August 26, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has held voting for its candidates for the position of flagbearer.

At the conclusion of the voting, which took place in Accra today, Wednesday, July 26, 2023, Kennedy Agyapong was declared the winner of the first slot, and Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen was declared the winner of the second slot.

Agents working for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia decided that their boss should take the tenth spot.

Check out the complete list that follows:

1. Ken Ohene Agyapong

2. Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen

Joe Ghartey, number three

4. Kwadwo Poku

5. Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto

6. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong

7. Francis Addai Nimoh

8. Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku

9. Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko

10. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

According to the provisions of its constitution, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will narrow the field of its presidential candidates from ten to five on August 26.

Before the voting began, nine of the candidates, with the exception of Dr. Bawumia, submitted a petition to the leadership of the party requesting that the special delegates conference be held in one central location rather than at the provincial level.

They expressed their disagreement with the plans, which state that just 900 delegates will be allowed to vote at the regional level.

However, during a crucial meeting on July 20th, the National Council of the NPP decided against granting the petition.

After that, the party released the following recommendations as a guide for the polling places:

Each of the 16 Regional Capitals will play host to the Special Electoral College on the day that it is slated to take place, August 26, 2023.

• Each delegate has the right to one vote, and that vote can be cast in a confidential ballot for just one of the candidates running for office.

• The validated Album for the Special Electoral College must be provided to all prospective presidential candidates at least one month before the date of the Congress (that is, no later than July 26, 2023).

• The elections for the Special Electoral College are going to be run by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

• The Special Electoral College and the National Congress will each have their own elections to be overseen by a separate Elections Committee that has been recently established.

• The National Council has taken a careful look at some unhealthy words and utterances made by several aspirant presidential candidates and their followers. These comments and utterances do not bode well for the unity and cohesiveness of the Party.

• As a result, the Council has decided to issue this statement in order to emphasise the significance of adhering to the Party's Code of Conduct for Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

• Any individual who acts in a manner that is in violation of the Code of Conduct, whether it be an aspiring presidential candidate, his followers, or party executives at any level, will be dealt with in accordance with the principles outlined within that document as well as the Party Constitution moving forward.
