The former minister for Sanitation and Water Resources has been trending for the past few days after news broke that her house help is standing trial for theft. Hours later, Cecilia Dapaah, former MP for Bantama released a communique which led to many Ghanaians hurling more insults at her. The minister finally resigned on Saturday citing that she doesn' t want her personal issues to affect the reputation of the government. Many however want her investigated and if possible prosecuted if the allegations against her are true.
Paul Adom Otchere, host of Metro TV' s Good Evening Ghana has come to the Defence of Cecilia Dapaah. According to Paul, there are a number of characters who need to be introduced into the narrative so Ghanaians get the clear picture as to whether Cecilia really had $1 million alongside other expensive stuff. Paul explained that Cecilia Dapaah was keeping $800, 000 worth of money belonging to her dead brother, Nana Akwasi Essan. The money was to be used by her brother for a contract till his untimely demise.
After he passed on, Cecilia' s mother gave the money to Cecilia to keep. The mother also passed not too long after handing over the money to Cecilia and so the money was kept at the house of Cecilia. According to Paul, the remainder of $200, 000 belonged to Cecilia and this can be explained because she was a minister and aside that has been in management for many years and so that amount is nothing to her.
Paul notes that Mr. Kufuor, husband of Cecilia is an architect and has designed many illustrious places in Ghana. Some of the include GCB headquarters in Accra (8 million cedis worth contract), embassy premises of the Russian Federation in Accra (deal worth $15 million), office building of the Canadian High Commission, New Office of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Silver Star Towers Tamale teaching hospital alongside other projects around the country.
Paul asserts that Mr Kufuor has been an architecture for 50 years and so he is capable of having the 300, 000 Euros found in their house. The jewelries according to Paul belonged to Cecilia. According to Paul Adom Otchere the President accepted the resignation later and applauded the former minister because he has the full details of what happened and is convinced that Cecilia is innocent.
Paul called on Ghanaians to stop calling Cecilia a thief because they are yet to know the facts of the case at court. He called for patience as the police works to settle the issue.
