According to well- known Ghanaian broadcaster Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD), the New Patriotic Party (NPP)' s (' breaking the 8' plan) in the 2024 elections makes no sense.
He claimed that the individual behind the NPP' s campaign slogan " Break the 8" lacked common sense.
In an interview with TV XYZ, KKD challenged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and charged that he had broken his pledge to combat galamsey, or illegal mining.
" Things that you were supposed to do to break the eight, if you would have done them there wouldn' t be any need for a campaign, because of galamsey you bet with your presidency, you people should play the time that the president said that he will put his president on a bet to fight galamsey for me, whom are you deceiving here? " he asked.
He claimed that the president' s failure to follow through on this crucial matter had cast doubt on the sincerity of the government' s assurances.
" The person who coined ' breaking the 8' doesn' t have sense, you people should mention the name for me, the person doesn' t have sense, we have book sense and common sense, " said KKD.
" Imagine you married a wife and during the marriage, you were unable to provide anything for your wife; she has grown filthy and all of her clothes are torn; and your children, you neglected them, " he said. When someone else offers to marry her, you suddenly want to leave because you couldn' t take the sick to the hospital. then you understand that is the perfect opportunity to be kind to her. Why didn' t you do those things right away, you fool. "
The NPP ahead of the 2024 election, has set out a target dubbed ' breaking the 8' to break this jinx by retaining power in 2024.
