The New Patriotic Party' s (NPP) Chairman Wontumi, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has received a warning from two outspoken backers of Alan John Kyerematen, a candidate for the position of party flagbearer. They have advised him to refrain from behaving as if he is in total command of the party.
James Nana Prempeh, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly' s (KMA) revenue convener, and former KMA presiding member Abraham Boadi (Opooman) have condemned the Ashanti NPP' s conduct, saying Chairman Wontumi is behaving as though he is the NPP' s founder.
The two from Alan Kyerematen' s camp spoke out against the way Wontumi coerced NPP delegates on the Sometymer Otuo Acheampong- hosted Oyerepa Breakfast Show.
The two from Alan Kyerematen' s camp spoke on the Sometymer Otuo Acheampong- hosted Oyerepa Breakfast Show to criticize Wontumi for pressuring NPP delegates in Oforikrom to support Bawumia.
In the words of Opooman, " Chairman Wontumi has pocketed NPP in Ashanti as if it is his personal property. "
He added that despite not being involved in the Ashanti NPP' s founding in 1992, Wontumi has dominated all of its top leaders.
According to Abraham Boadi, Chairman Wontumi used to organize prayer meetings on football fields in Ahinsan, which is a part of the Asokwa Municipality.
" NPP was founded in 1992, and I had gotten my party card by 1994. Wontumi was only a pastor leading prayer sessions at Ahinsan School Park at the time, completely unrelated to politics, " Opooman told Sometymer.
He added that he and Nana Prempeh (the Alan boys) will oversee Wontumi' s progress without fear or intimidation in order to prevent the party from dissolving before the elections of 2024.
We have no reason to be afraid of anyone in Kumasi, he declared.
On the other side, Chairman Wontumi has repeatedly flouted the party' s rules and ideals, according to Nana Prempeh, who said that he should have been suspended long ago.
