Professor P. L. O Lumumba, a Kenyan activist, lawyer and former Director of the Kenyan Law School was one of the guest speakers during the 11th Anniversary of the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills. At the event this week, former President, John Mahama paid glowing tribute to his former boss and noted that he is one the best things that happened to the country. The event saw a number of NDC big wigs who eulogized the former president.

One of the things that caught the attention of many was the speech delivered by Prof. Lumumba. According to him, there are very few leaders like Atta Mills. He noted that governance isn' t about the longevity of the term of service but rather about service and honesty. Prof. Lumumba criticized Africa leaders for holding on to power for long and yet failing to transform their countries.

Prof Lumumba was of the view that despite Atta Mills governing for less than 4 years he deserves commendation and every African leader should aspire for Atta Mills' honesty, diligence and calm character. He asserted that Atta Mills didn' t build a cathedral or steal money from his people and yet Ghanaians cannot forget him.

Prof. Lumumba called on African leaders to desist from using the coffers of the country to build unnecessary edifices while their citizens suffer and wallow in poverty. He charged all leaders to emulate and learn from the short tenure of the late Atta Mills.

" It is not how long you serve but how well you serve. We are celebrating humility and telling the arrogant African politician to change. John Atta Mills did not build cathedrals. He didn' t steal any money. John Atta Mills did the right things. He was compassionate" , Prof Lumumba said.

Many feel the mention of the building of cathedrals is a direct attack on President Akufo- Addo who has consistently come under attack for wasting millions of cedis on building a national cathedral.
