Shopping has come a long way from just visiting stores and shops in search of the perfect product to purchase. With the rise of technology and e-commerce platforms like Walmart, e-bay, Amazon and so on.

Online shopping has become a very popular and accessible option for many consumers. Research has shown that 2.14 billion people prefer online shopping to local shopping, this gives us a percentage of 33.3%.

?However, many shoppers still prefer the traditional and personal experience of local shopping. The percentage of people who prefer local shopping is close to 73%. This proves that a majority of individuals prefer local shopping to online shopping.

?

In this post we will dive into the pros and cons of both Online and local shopping. At the end, we will determine which offers the best shopping experience.

  • Convenience

Online shopping offer a lot of convenience, because you can shop from the comfort of your home or office and in no time your product will be delivered to your door step On the other hand, local shopping requires you physically going to a store or shop, dealing with crowds and traffics and potentially spending extra time searching for a product of your choice.

  • Variety

Now choosing and selecting a product is the next on the list. Online shopping offers a vast selection of products to choose from and also you get the chance to choose from different retailers.

You can easily compare prices from different sellers and read reviews from other buyers

However, online products description and images can be inaccurate or misleading. Local shopping may have a more limited selections but you get the opportunity to see and touch the product before you buy.

  • Support for local economy
When shopping locally, you have the opportunity to support and strengthen your community's local businesses and even the economy. Also you can build relationships with store owners and employees and be assured that your money is staying in the local economy.

  • Pricing

In terms of pricing, online shopping can offer lower prices due to the ability to easily compare prices from different retailers and find the best deals. However local shopping can provide better deals and sales, because business owners can easily manipulate pricing to fit the community needs and even the consumers pocket.

In all, online and local shopping have their positives and negatives. It really depends on the individual's needs and preferences. For convenience and preferences, online shopping is a great option. For a traditional shopping experience and supporting local businesses, local shopping is the way to go.
