Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has compiled a list of the nation's roads, interchanges, and bridges that are in various levels of completion.
When giving the Mid-Year Budget Review on Monday, he stated that this is a part of the government's commitment to improving safety along significant trunk highways as well as mobility and accessibility.
According to Mr. Ofori Atta, "Government remains committed to improving road infrastructure in partnership with the private sector and in accordance with the fiscal consolidation plan in the IMF-backed PCPEG."
The list of roads and bridges now being built is below;
1. Construction on the National Trunk Road N8's (31.2 km) Assin Fosu-Assin Praso segment (Phase 2) was finished and put into service in June 2023;
2. Lot 1 and Lot 2 of the Accra-Tema Beach Road are each 79 and 89 percent finished, respectively;
3. work is still being done to build a three-tier interchange at Nungua Barrier;
4. The Kumasi Lake Road and Drainage Extension project's construction work is 98 percent finished;
5. Phase 1 of Selected Roads in Sekondi and Takoradi is 21% complete;
6. The Tema-Aflao road is 30% finished;
7. The Nsawam-Ofankor road is 26% finished;
8. The Bechem-Techimantia-Akomadan road reconstruction is 64% complete;
9. The Agona Nkwanta-Tarkwa road reconstruction is 34% complete;
10. As of June 2023, Phase 2 of the Obetsebi Lamptey Circle Interchange and related works is 86 percent complete;
11. Work has started on a 4-tier interchange at Suame in the Ashanti Region;
12. As of the end of June 2023, 50 prefabricated bridges were still being built across all sixteen areas, with 86 percent completed;
13. Of the 87 steel panel bridges that are being designed, manufactured, and delivered, 45 have already been completed;
14. A new bridge that will divide automobile traffic from the railway line is 93% complete at Twifo Praso.
In addition to these, Mr. Ofori Atta stated that two projects, under the Road Sector's Public Private Partnerships (PPP) programme for the financing, construction, and management of road infrastructure, are in various stages of preparation.
They do;
Phase 1 of the 31.7km Accra-Tema Motorway Extension Project include rebuilding the highway. The draught Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) agreement and the Concession Agreement have both been finalised and will be brought before this House.
The Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) model will be used to arrange the development of Tema's arterial roads on a PPP basis. The project's evaluation is still under progress.
The finance minister stated that in order to boost production and make it easier to transport food crops, the government will also launch a campaign to rehabilitate local roads.
"Districts Assemblies will be given complementary equipment to ensure that their local roads are motorable throughout the year," he said.
