Hon. John Kwame Duodu, First Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency of the Ashanti Region, has contributed 4,200 pieces of mathematical sets to the education authorities in the Constituency.
It is anticipated that the mathematics sets and pens will be given out to all applicants within the municipality who are studying for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) that will take place this year.
The presentation, which will not cost the candidate anything, is one of the steps that is being taken as part of the procedures to ensure that no applicant is without the fundamental learning inputs that are required for the BECE.
Motivation:
At a brief ceremony held on Monday, July 31, 202, on the premises of the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Education Directorate at Nkawie, the Honourable John Kwame Duodu, well known as Sir John, stated that the mathematics sets were being donated in order to increase the preparedness of the candidate.
"You are aware that we are undergoing challenging times, and in circumstances such as these, not all parents are able to acquire such resources for their children, particularly as they are ready to take such an external examination. As a result, after conferring with higher-ups in the party, including the MP, I've chosen to make this donation in the hopes that it will assist in boosting their confidence, as Sir John explained.
"I am aware that the instructors have contributed their share. The Ashanti Regional TESCON patron emphasised that it is the students' responsibility to review their notes and avoid engaging in any sort of test misconduct to prevent the cancellation of their papers.
He lauded the accomplishments of the Akufo-Addo administration in the education sector and reminded the candidates that, should they emerge victorious in the election, they will be eligible to receive financial assistance under the policy of free senior high school education.
Sir John, who is also the Ashanti Regional TESCON Patron, said, "I am only following the example of my President, H.E. Akufo-Addo, and his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who have ensured that Education from Basic to SHS is free, and today I am here to donate these math sets and pens so that the BECE pupils would know that we are solidly behind them to succeed." Sir John is also the Ashanti Regional TESCON Patron.
The executive of the NPP stated that the success of the students in the upcoming examinations will portend better things for the municipality, which is why the decision was made to support them so that they can do well and obtain the opportunity to enter Senior High Schools and continue their education.
He stated that the performance of the current administration over the previous seven (7) years has been significantly better than that of earlier administrations over the last 14 years in terms of educational outcomes, and he added that change is occurring from school to school.
Sir John pleaded with the people of the country, saying, "I sincerely believe the government has done its part to make education, especially tuition, boarding, feeding, and others, free. However, we as citizens can contribute to making the pupils and schools feel relieved by providing some basic items they would need."
Intervention in a timely manner
Juliana Essel Cudjoe, who is the Director of the Ghana Education Service for the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, has received the materials. She lauded the generous act that Mr. Duodu had performed, noting that it came at an opportune moment.
Upon collecting the items from the NPP constituency Vice Chairman, she expressed her gratitude to the support and stated that the directorate was glad to have it.
The Director urged the students to look at the act as motivation for them to perform well on the papers that they would be writing and encouraged them to do so.
Madam Essel-Cudjoe emphasised, "I want to thank Sir John for this gesture, and I want to ask others to learn from it and support the educational efforts of this directorate so that together we can give our pupils and students the best of education." "I want to thank Sir John for this gesture, and I want to ask others to learn from it and support the educational efforts of this directorate."
Sir John receives praise from MCE
Michael Amoah Awuku, the Chief Executive Officer of the Municipality of Atwima Nwabiagya South, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Assembly towards the NPP Vice Chairperson for the gift.
In addition to the fact that the action was well-timed, he pointed out that it was an excellent way to motivate the students to perform to the best of their abilities on the next tests.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) issued a plea to all of the other citizens of the region, urging them to take a cue from the NPP Vice Chairperson's behaviour and educate themselves so that they, too, can contribute to providing the people of Atwima Nwabiagya with a quality education.
According to what Mr. Awuku said, "I urge our BECE pupils to look at this gesture by Sir John Duodu as motivation and purpose in their hearts to do well in the upcoming examination."
Gratitude to One's Beneficiaries
The students who would benefit from Sir John's teaching as well as their parents voiced their contentment with his performance. The introduction of the mathematical tools couldn't have come at a better moment for Ursula Amoh Mensah, who is only 14 years old.
Beginning on Monday, August 7, 2023, and continuing through Friday, August 11, 2023, students in their final year of Junior High School (JHS) across the country will begin writing their BECE.
