The Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Mohammed Adam Baantima Samba, had his Oil Marketing Company (OMC), LillyGold Energy Resources Limited, put out of business by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

The OMC's licencing had been cancelled by the authority in October 2022, but it was discovered that the company continued to operate unlawfully beyond that date. As a result, the NPA was required to carry out the activities.

In a statement issued earlier this year, the authorities revealed that it would be revoking the licences of approximately thirty oil and gas operating management companies (OMCs) across the nation, one of which was LillyGold Energy Resources Limited.

During an interview, the Northern Regional Manager for the NPA, Mr. Rasheed Dauda, stated that according to the law, the company was no longer allowed to conduct business and that neither the branding nor the logo were meant to be in existence.

"The name LillyGold has been used for quite some time by both this retail establishment in Kanvili and another one located around the industrial region at Lamashegu. He made the observation that "we're here to come and shut down the station and caution the public not to do business with LillyGold."

Mr. Rasheed continued by saying that despite the fact that the corporation is owned by the Chairman of the NPP, the law does not respect any person or organisation in any way.

"If you're operating something that is illegal, it is illegal, and so action should be brought to make sure that this illegality is remedy," he emphasised. "If you're operating something that is illegal, it is illegal."

The Manager emphasised that this is not about the personality of the NPP Chairman, and that any person discovered to be operating an unlawful site will equally suffer the same action as the NPP Chairman if they are proved to be responsible for it.

During this time, the manager of the Lamashegu branch shared with the taskforce during a conversation that the facility was operating with the licencing of an OMC called Famous.

However, in response, the Northern Regional Manager stated that what they were doing was unlawful and further challenged the employees to present proof of the necessary papers, which they were unable to do.

Caution

The Regional Manager encouraged the general public to refrain from purchasing petroleum products from such Oil Marketing Companies, adding that there are no remedial actions of any kind, and the authority is unable to step in if something goes wrong.

He emphasised that "by law since the National Petroleum Authority is in charge of the downstream industry, we're to ensure that such illegal outlets do not operate." "We're to ensure that such illegal outlets do not operate,"
