Jesus made the promise to give us this power and authority in Matthew 16:18 when he said to Peter: "The gates of Hades will not be able to withstand or withhold the advancing church." Jesus was going to build his church.
The church was going to advance. The gates of Hades could not withstand it.
Jesus is saying that he who is in us is greater than he who is in the world. His power is greater than the power of the enemy. When there is a head-on conflict between the power of the enemy and the power of God, the power of the enemy will lose every time. Do not panic when things becomes difficult ; be strong because God is our strength.
In Philippians 4:19 the Bible says and my God shall supply all your needs according to his glorious riches . This is the power we have as Christians and comprehend darkness.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE GIVEN AUTHORITY BY GOD?

In general, it refers to the idea that God has granted certain individuals or groups the power to act on His behalf or to carry out His will. This authority may be given through various means such as divine revelation, scripture, or tradition.
In some religious traditions, such as Christianity and Judaism, the idea of being given authority by God is often linked to the concept of stewardship. This means that individuals are entrusted with a certain responsibility to care for and manage the resources and people under their authority in a way that is pleasing to God. This can include roles such as religious leaders, political leaders, and parents.
Ultimately, the idea of being given authority by God is often seen as a sacred trust, which requires individuals to act with humility, compassion, and a sense of accountability to both God and the people they serve. We as the Christian society however hold to faith ; for the Bible says “and for those who believed in him (Jesus) they were given the power to becomes the sons/daughters of God.
