According to the lawyer for the primary suspect in the Cecilia Dapaah theft case, his client did not steal any money.

Patience Botwe, a former house help to the complainant's former Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, is suspected of stealing a million dollars, 300,000 Euros, and millions of cedis, as well as bags and jewelries, with an accomplice, Sarah Agyei, also a former house help to the complainant.

The accused is currently on trial alongside her accomplices. According to the police charge sheet, the 18-year-old house help allegedly blew the money lavishly with her accomplices, renting a 3-bedroom apartment for a staggering GH105,600, purchasing a 3-bedroom house in Amrahia reportedly worth US$70,000 furnished with top-of-the-line items, allegedly gifting her boyfriend a Hyundai Elantra worth GH80,000, and also extended financial assistance to her family and ex-boyfriend, contributing GH50,000 to her father and

However, speaking to the press after a court hearing on Wednesday, August 2, her lawyer stated that his client did not take any money.
"Please understand that my client has not stolen any money from anywhere." Nobody has so many clothes in her closet," he added.

The lawyer slammed the cops for neglecting to bring the accused to court.
The accused persons were not presented in court by police prosecutors, indicating that the police officers who were scheduled to present the two accused had traveled.
Furthermore, they stated that the Attorney General has now completely assumed responsibility for the prosecution of the case.
However, one of the accused persons' lawyers, Augustine Gyamfi, who was not pleased with the situation, said it would have been more courteous for A-G officials to be present in court to announce the decision to take over the case.
He went on to say that the failure to go through such a process is grounds for concern.
The prosecutor informed the court that the Attorney General is prepared to take up the case. In my perspective, if the AG is interested and respects the judicial process, he or she should have appeared in court today to inform the court that "we want to take up the matter, but certain things are not in place, so we need one or two weeks to do so."

"You don't sit in your office and tell a police prosecutor that you want to [take it up]." No. Some of these things we perceive as gimmicks to deny people the justice they require," he told the reporters.
He voiced displeasure, saying that the development was an attempt to make it harder for them to comply with the bail requirements.
