Gabriel Jesus, who missed a significant portion of the previous season due to a knee injury sustained at the World Cup, has once again undergone surgery on the same knee. The Brazilian forward was ruled out of a recent friendly victory against Monaco after complaining of irritation in the affected knee. Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, confirmed the surgery and announced that Jesus would be sidelined for several weeks.

Arteta expressed disappointment at losing Jesus just as he was returning to his best form, notably after an impressive performance against Barcelona. The decision to operate was made to address the discomfort that Jesus had been experiencing in recent weeks and to protect the player's long-term well-being.

The manager clarified that the current procedure is related to the previous knee injury and subsequent surgery. The irritation in the knee needed to be resolved promptly to ensure Jesus's swift return to full fitness. Eddie Nketiah filled in for Jesus in the recent match, scoring Arsenal's only goal, but the United States international Folarin Balogun was not included in the squad due to a minor injury he has been nursing during the summer.

Balogun had an impressive loan spell in Ligue 1 with Stade Reims last season, scoring 21 goals, and has been linked with a potential move away from Arsenal. However, Arteta emphasized that Jesus's injury does not affect their plans for Balogun, and the club is still open to the idea of him moving if the right offer comes in. Arsenal is reportedly seeking a fee of around £50 million for the young striker.

Inter had previously engaged in talks regarding Balogun's transfer but has now shifted its focus to pursuing a more affordable deal for Gianluca Scamacca from West Ham United. As the situation unfolds, Arteta remains confident in the team's adaptability, even in the absence of Gabriel Jesus, with various options available to suit different playing styles.

The setback is undoubtedly a blow for both Gabriel Jesus and Arsenal, but the club's priority is to ensure the player's full recovery before he returns to action. As the summer transfer window continues, Arsenal will be keen to find the best solution for Balogun's future while aiming to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
