HIV INFECTIONS IN GHANA: HERE ARE THE REGIONS FROM HIGHEST TO LOWEST

According to the data compiled by the Ghana Aids Commission for 2022, the number of HIV-positive individuals in the country has increased by 2.7% over the course of the preceding years, reaching a total of 354,927 people.


This is evident in the way cases are distributed among the regions, with the majority cases concentrated in the capital.


According to the Director General of the Commission, Dr. Kyeremeh Atuahene, the majority of HIV carriers are unaware of their status, and as a result, they are transmitting the virus to other individuals who are negative.


According to the national HIV data statistics of people living with the virus, there are 330,215 adults fifteen years and older, 24,712 children between the ages of zero and fourteen years, 21,439 adolescents between the ages of ten and nineteen years, and 40,497 young people between the ages of fifteen and twenty-four.


According to the findings of an analysis of people now living with HIV in the sun-national, there are 120,000 people infected with the virus across all 16 regions in Ghana.


According to the data, the Greater Accra Region has the highest number of HIV carriers, with a total of 85,403 people; the Ashanti Region comes in second place, with a total of 72,429 positive cases.


Following the Eastern Region with 46,339 positive cases is the Central Region with 24,046 positive cases, the Western Region with 23,904 positive cases, the Bono Region with 19,281 positive cases, the Volta Region with 16,996 positive cases, the Bono East Region with 14,617, the Western North Region with 11,880, the Northern Region with 7,405, the Upper East Region with 7,361 HIV carriers, the Upper West Region with 7,185 positive cases, Ahafo Region with 6,509 positive cases


According to a research conducted by the Ghana Aids Commission over the past eight years, sexual activity continues to be the primary route through which HIV is transmitted in Ghana.


According to the research, the risk of HIV infection is continuously higher among women than it is among males across all age groups.
