At least four people were reportedly shot by Chinese miners at a site in Enchi in the western north of the Philippines.

During a shooting incident that took place in Banaso, a tiny mining hamlet located close to Enchi in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North area, four people came dangerously close to losing their lives. The incident that took place on Tuesday, August 1 is currently being investigated by the authorities in order to determine how and what led to the shooting that resulted in these four people being injured. The incident took place on a Tuesday. An official from the non-governmental organisation Innovation for Poverty Action (IPA), which travelled to the community of Banaso in order to conduct a survey on the academic performance of school students in these mining areas, was reportedly attacked by Chinese galamseyers along with their Ghanaian counterparts, as reported by a source for UTV News.According to the source, an official from the NGO visited the school and, while there, saw that a significant number of schoolchildren were absent from class. As a result, the official decided to pay a visit to the houses of the children in question in order to learn the reasons for their absences from school.According to Kwabena Dickson, who is the Western North Regional Correspondent for UTV News, the official of the NGO hired a tricycle that is commonly referred to as a "Pragya" in order to visit these school pupils. When they were on their way to the village, they came along a little bridge that connected the community to the school where they were enrolled. Regrettably, the wood that was on the bridge had been stolen by some unknown individuals, which made it difficult for them to cross.During the time that everyone was hanging about waiting for someone to figure out how to get across the bridge, there was some confusion regarding the mining site that occurred between Chinese miners and their Ghanaian counterparts. Some members of the community are miners. The source revealed that at that time, the Chinese illegal miners had just finished mining and were getting ready to transport what they call "Black" to town. However, when they saw that the wood on the bridge had been removed and that some members of the community had invaded the area, they learned that some people were planning to rob them of their "Black Gold."According to the information provided by the informant, a Chinese miner issued the order to shoot, which prompted the leader of the security guide, whose only name was supplied as Soldier, to point the gun at the location where the 'Pragya' was parked and begin firing without regard for who was being targeted.

Those members of the village who were present at the time fled for their lives, and those who were able to swim dove into the river.A gunshot shot by a galamsey security guard struck two female students, the driver of the "pragya," and an official of the non-governmental organisation (NGO).After receiving first aid at a nearby health care, the four people were sent to Enchi Government Hospital, but were eventually transferred to Asankragua Hospital.According to the information that is accessible to UTV News, they have been referred to Kumasi in order to get the pellets removed. An eyewitness claims that the official from the NGO may have been struck in the head. The authorities are currently searching for Soldier, the security officer who fired the gun and are seeking for him right now.Meanwhile, a person who talked to Kwabena Dickson on the condition of anonymity revealed that the individual who fired the pistol is known to be quite feared in the Bonsaso community, but that he has recently migrated to Apke Allah, a tiny mining village located close to the region in question.
