Residents of Wassa Nkyirifi, a farming community in the Western Region, experienced a horrifying incident on Friday morning when a seven-year-old girl named Sandy Manu was suspected to have been murdered by her uncle in a gruesome act of money ritual.
The suspect, identified as Augustine, a 37-year-old farmer, initially reported to the police that his niece had gone missing. In a seemingly desperate attempt to find her, Augustine even made public announcements on the radio, seeking ?help to locate her.
However, the police grew suspicious of his behavior and responses during their investigation, which led to an intense interrogation.
Under pressure, Augustine eventually broke down and confessed to the heinous crime. He admitted that he killed Sandy as part of a money ritual to escape poverty.
According to his account, he had complained about his financial struggles to an elderly man in the community, who suggested he perform a money ritual using one of his nieces.
Following this advice, Augustine sought the help of a spiritualist, who instructed him to bring a human head, specifically one of his nieces. He chose Sandy Manu as the victim, hence, brutally killing and beheading her before burying the body in a nearby bush and concealing the head for the ritual as instructed by the spiritualist.
With Augustine's confession, the police were able to locate the headless body of Sandy Manu in the bush and retrieve the concealed head from another location. The young girl's remains were taken to the morgue for further investigation.
The shocking incident has left the community in grief and disbelief. Sandy's family and neighbors are devastated by the loss of such a young life at the hands of a family member.
The police have since taken Augustine into custody, and he will likely face severe legal consequences for his heinous actions.
