The question as to who becomes the next NPP flagbearer going into the 2024 elections has been asked by many Ghanaians. Ten bigwigs in the NPP have expressed interests in securing the mandate of the delegates come 26th August 2023. Among these notable stalwarts include the former minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Akoto Owusu Afriyie; Kwadwo Poku who is an energy expert; Joe Ghartey, former Attorney General and Minster of Justice; Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, former Trade Minister; Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central; Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, a former General Secretary of the NPP; Mr. Boakye Agyarko, former Energy Minister; Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku; former MP for Offinso North constituency and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.

However, many Ghanaians have expressed their concerns regarding the impending NPP Presidential Primaries as the question, "Who becomes the next President of the Republic of Ghana"? Is left unanswered by many fellow compatriots. Thus, amidst the current economic hardships that bedeviled the ordinary Ghanaian, it is however imperative that the discerning delegates scrutinize the policies of the prospective aspirants to see if the policies can effectively affect the standards of their living in a positive manner, hence it is significant that the delegate attaches much importance to this NPP Presidential Primaries.

Political analyst and media practitioners have described the NPP presidential primaries as a three-horse race focused on Dr. Bawumia, Mr. Kyeremanten and Hon. Kennedy Agyapong. However, among the ten aspirants, it appears the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia is undoubtedly gaining grounds as party Faithfuls including MPs, ministers, and other appointees of the Akuffo Addo government who keep declaring their support for him [Dr. Bawumia]. But, from the popular words of the late Sir John, "Fear delegates" leaves Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia a bit alarmed and not to rely on the accolades being rained on him by the delegates as Hon. Kennedy Agyapong is also proving redoubtable in the strongholds of the party.

Come 26th August, among the ten aspirants, the delegates shall elect five of the aspirants and the final primaries would be held in November to elect the flagbearer. Inasmuch as many of the delegates have thrown their support behind Dr. Bawumia, it would be onerous to Dr. Bawumia and his camp if Hon. Kennedy Agyapong wins the second spot, and the margin between him [Hon. Kennedy] and Dr. Bawumia is close. Thus, in the final primaries since all polling station executives, branch executives and all constituency executives can accordingly cast the ballot, therefore, it wouldn't be so easy for one candidate to pay sumptuous amount of money to all these delegates. Chances are that, majority of the NPP members who are dissatisfied with the family and friends' government established by the Akuffo Addo-Bawumia led administration will switch to either the camp of Hon. Kennedy Agyapong or Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten. This will enable the delegates to make an informed choice since, probably the money offered by the candidates to the delegates is either inadequate or the delegates never received cash from the aspirants in order to influence their choice of candidate. This will pave the way for the delegates to make right decisions as to who leads the party into victory, come 2024 elections.
