Residents of the rural town of Wassa Nkyirifi in the Western Region awoke on Friday to the horrifying news that a seven year old girl was allegedly murdered by her uncle for ritualistic money making purposes.
The suspect, a 37-year-old farmer who goes by the name Augustine, allegedly killed the victim and burried the body in a nearby bush before calling the police to report his niece missing.
Sandy Manu, who is 7 years old, has been named as the victim.
The suspect then went a step further, broadcasting public pleas for assistance in finding his niece on the radio.
However, Augustine's answers to the questions and the reasons why he was so concerned about the missing young girl led the Wassa Amenfi East Municipal Police to suspect foul play
According to a police source, Augustine's body language, replies, and eventual admission that he was afraid led to an extended police interrogation during which he started crying.
He subsequently admitted, in accordance with the police source, that he had killed the niece as part of a money ritual in order to avoid going hungry.
According to reports, he informed the police that after complaining about his financial situation to an elderly member of the Wassa Nkyirifi group, the man advised him to use one of his several nieces for money rituals.
After his meditation, he visited a spiritualist the following day for assistance with his money rituals.
The suspect claimed that at that point, the medium instructed him to deliver a human head—specifically, the head of one of his nieces.
After that, he attacked Sandy and killed her.
He killed her and beheaded her, then buried the headless body while hiding the head.
The decapitated body was dug up from the neighboring bush by the police after he had led them there.
Additionally, the head was located in another place.
The suspect is currently being held by police, and the body has subsequently been placed at the morgue.
