Manchester City's manager, Pep Guardiola, has hinted that he might extend his contract with the club, despite recently committing to stay until 2025. In December, Guardiola signed a two-year extension, putting to rest any doubts about his future with the team. This agreement extends his contract until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Since securing the extension, the Spanish manager has guided Manchester City to an extraordinary season. The team claimed their third consecutive Premier League title, won the FA Cup, and achieved their first-ever Champions League triumph, completing a rare treble.
Currently, Guardiola's focus is on defending Manchester City's hard-earned trophies. He has set his sights on adding the Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup, Carabao Cup, and Club World Cup to their collection in the upcoming months.
Guardiola expressed his contentment with the team and his contract situation, emphasizing that winning the treble did not change his mindset. He stated, "I signed a contract for another two years because I feel comfortable - and nothing has changed whether we won [the treble] or didn't win."
The City manager believes that as long as the club's board and hierarchy are satisfied with his performance, he is content to continue leading the group of players. He did leave the possibility open for further contract talks if needed, saying, "If they are satisfied, I am still satisfied. I want to defend what we won and maybe at the end of the season, if I am tired, we will talk with the club - or maybe extend more."
As Manchester City gears up for the new season, Guardiola emphasized that he did not contemplate leaving on a high note after the Champions League triumph. He acknowledged that his focus is entirely on preparing the team for the upcoming challenges, and he remains dedicated to the competition.
Despite enjoying a successful summer following their Champions League victory, Guardiola's attention has quickly shifted back to the upcoming season. He and his players are committed to putting in the necessary effort and work to maintain their competitive edge. Guardiola is confident in his team's abilities and fully engaged in the preparations for their upcoming fixtures.
