Ghana is marking Founders' Day, today, Friday, August 4, 2023. The day is used to celebrate all the men and women who contributed in Ghana' s independence. Originally, only September 21 was set aside to celebrate the one who spearheaded Ghana' s independence. However, the Akufo- Addo led government in 2019 changed that and made August 4 a statutory holiday to remember all the people who worked to liberate the country from external aggression.
Many have bombarded the Akufo- Addo led government from trying to steal the glory from Nkrumah and instituting another holiday to celebrate the Danquah Busia tradition. Indeed, the day August 4 is synonymous with August 4, 1947, the day that the United Gold Coast Convention was found. The opposition National Democratic Congress have threatened many times that they will cancel the Founders' Day holiday when they take over power.
Loud Silence Media, headed by United States based Ghanaian journalist, Kevin Taylor on the occasion of Founders' Day posted a photo on their Facebook page. The photo has John Dramani Mahama, former President of Ghana and Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana sharing a smile. The photo is most like to have been edited and made to look like a single photo. Kevin Taylor captioned the photo The " Past and the Present"
The photo despite not being original hasn' t gone unnoticed. Many Ghanaians have been reacting to the photo. According to many of the comments, the photo is prophetic and showed Nkrumah handing over power to Mahama to transform Ghana. Some also stated that the duo of Mahama and Nkrumah are the best things that happened to the country.
Not all were pleased with the photo though. Some criticized Kevin for joining a photo of Mahama to Nkrumah. They noted that it is a disgrace considering that Mahama didn' t really do anything to transform the country. What do you make of the photo?
