At the National Progressive Party's Arise and Build Unity Walk, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia gave a speech to the gathering.
O.B. Amoah, a member of parliament for the Akwapim South constituency in the Eastern Region and a minister of state at the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, has stated that the grassroots of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are the ones calling for the election of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP flagbearer. He made this statement in response to a question posed by O.B. Amoah.
On Monday, August 7, 2023, while addressing NPP delegates in the Akwapim South constituency as part of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign stopover in the constituency as part of his tour of the Eastern Region, he made this observation. The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was in the constituency as part of his trip.
"You, the NPP grassroots, are sending those of us who are part of the super delegates to Koforidua to choose the five candidates who will participate in the primaries in November 2023 and finally to decide the one who will be our presidential candidate. Koforidua is located in Ghana.
"When I take a look at the energy, the excitement, and the enthusiasm you are displaying here, it is clear that you, the NPP grassroots, are sending those of us who are part of the super delegates to select the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, that is the clear message you have given to us," O.B. Amoah said. "That is the clear message you have given to us."
Call to action from the grassroots
The congressman for Akwapim South pointed out that the super delegates of the NPP, of which there are approximately 961, will carry out the mandate that they have been given by the rank and file of the party and vote for the candidate of their choice on August 26.
"We will not let you down, and on August 26th, it will not just be the Akwapim South constituency that will have elected Dr. Bawumia; the entirety of Ghana will have voted for him,"
"If you look at the Vice President's campaign from constituency to constituency, region to region, everyone of the people he is interacting with has endorsed him, and here in the East Region, we will ensure that we add up to the long list of endorsements," Amoah said. "If you look at the Vice President's campaign from constituency to constituency, region to region," Amoah added.
Unique characteristics
O.B. Amoah shared his thoughts on his personal experience with the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and what he thinks of him, as well as the qualities that he believes he possesses, and noted that the Vice President is a strong character who is capable of bearing the flag of the NPP after President Akufo-Addo. Amoah's comments were in response to a question about what the Vice President thinks of him.
"Dr. Bawumia is a level-headed individual, he has a positive frame of mind, he possesses a high level of emotional intelligence, he is not easily angered, he is an excellent listener, he is articulate, he is a supporter of the NPP, and he possesses a high degree of expertise.
O.B. Amoah stated in his message to his supporters that in the event that the present President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, were to be removed from office, there would be no one in the party with as much experience as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Tour for the campaign
Since he made public his intention to run for the presidency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has been travelling across the nation to meet with NPP delegates in each of the country's 275 electoral districts. This tour is part of his preparation for the upcoming election.
Up to this point, his campaign has taken him to all 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region and all 34 constituencies in the Greater Accra Region. In addition to this, he has travelled to each of the 23 districts that make up the Central Region as well as all 17 of the Western Region's districts.
The Eastern Region is home to 33 different constituencies, and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is now travelling all of them. When he finished his tour of the Eastern Region, he would have visited 154 of the nation's 275 constituencies, which is less than half of the total.
