Did you know that the world’s deadliest animal is one of the tiniest creatures ever. I know when we speak of deadly animals you probably think of the sharks,lions,tigers ,snakes and other animals known for their hunting skills.
Indeed, these are deadly animals but not as deadly as the Mosquito.
Yes, the Mosquito. The Mosquito is one of the smallest animals discovered, yet it is the deadliest animal ever known.
The word Mosquito is Spanish for little fly. Mosquitoes have a slender segmented body, one pair of halters, three pairs of long hair – like legs and elongated mouthparts.
A Mosquito weighs about 2.5 milligrams; they can drink more than 5 milligrams of blood when they bite which is twice its weight.
There are different species of Mosquitoes but the most dangerous one is, The Female Anopheles Mosquito.
The Female Anopheles Mosquito is a vector that carries the Plasmodium Parasite which causes Malaria.
According to the latest world Malaria reports, there were 247 million cases of Malaria in 2021 compared to 245 million cases in 2020.The estimated number of Malaria deaths stood at 619,000 in 2021 compared to 625,000 in 2020 which makes it more deaths caused by any animal per year.
Now, we know that a Mosquito is not just a flying creature that comes to cause nuisance but rather a deadly creature capable of eliminating half of a race or a state in a single year.
Facts About The Mosquito That You Didn’t know;
• Only the females bite
• Mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide. This makes them attracted to our breathe. They can sense carbon dioxide from 50 yards away, so it very difficult to hide from them , especially when we are outdoor.
• Mosquitoes are quite greedy. Mosquitoes are able to drink human blood cocktail 3 times their own weight. Now that’s a lot.
• There are a lot of mosquitoes. According to American Mosquito Control Association ,there are over 3,000 species of mosquitoes through out the world.
• Mosquitoes like your sweat. Mosquitoes are attracted to the mix of sweat and bacteria ,which means dried sweat is an especially tempting scent for the blood thirsty insect. Mosquitoes caring malaria are especially attracted to scent of sweat.
