HOW CAN WE PROGRESS IF THERE IS NO UNITY AMONG US - SISTA AFIA?

Sista Afia, the Ghanaian artist, has openly delved into the factors contributing to the relatively lower achievement of women within the Ghanaian music.

According to her in a series of tweets, women encounter a multitude of challenges both within their careers and in corporate environments.

"In my opinion we as women faces alot of obstacles in our career and corporate environments, and the achievement of hard fought success our attitude toward other women is “I figured it out, you should too."

In our industry the “female sector” when a woman is rising above other women other women starts talking lil behind their backs which is is a “norm” in our country which shouldn’t be. A rise of a women should be a win to all. Our mentality is sickening!

Within the industry, the "female sector" often witnesses a disheartening trend where as one woman gains prominence, others engage in negative discussions behind her back, a practice that has unfortunately become a norm in our country. However, the success of one woman should ideally be celebrated by all. Our mindset needs a transformation!

Sista Afia also emphasized the detrimental impact of objectification and the portrayal of women primarily as "sex symbols," which significantly obstructs their advancement, regardless of their substantial dedication and hard work.

"The constant focus on who is romantically involved with whom or who is financially supporting someone is pervasive. This excessive chatter and involvement in politics is detrimental to our progress."

In addition, she highlighted the disparity in mutual support among women compared to their male counterparts.

"I've observed that men tend to engage in more self-promotion than women. For instance, you can have 4-5 male artists collaborating on a song, while such collaborations are far less frequent among us," she elaborated.

Sista Afia also encouraged female artists to unite in support of one another, as this collective effort is the key to attaining the rightful recognition they deserve.

We hardly support each other. And the people see that. No unity whatsoever ! It’s written all over our space and that’s sad !

Is it true that the female artists in Ghana do not support each other? Do you agree with her or not?
