In a surprising turn of events, a case involving the theft of a substantial amount of money from the home of former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah, took an unexpected trajectory due to the presence of a Ghana Card.
According to a report by myjoyonline.com, the case initially brought against one of Cecilia Dapaah's house helps at the Juvenile Court faced a setback when a Ghana Card played a pivotal role in its outcome.
The sequence of events began in 2022 when the case was first presented before the Juvenile Court and subsequently at the Circuit Court. A curious incident occurred on October 4, 2022, when Cecilia Dapaah cautioned a domestic staff member against entering certain rooms in the house, a warning that was ignored.
Two days later, on October 6, 2022, the said staff member managed to enter one of the restricted rooms, only to be caught by Cecilia Dapaah's husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour. He unexpectedly returned home and discovered the unauthorized entry.
Following the incident, the domestic staff was handed over to the Tesano Police Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit. Upon Cecilia Dapaah's return on October 10, a thorough search of the room was conducted, revealing the disappearance of valuable items, including kente cloths, women's clothing, money, and jewelry.
Legal proceedings ensued, with charges filed against the staff member, leading to her appearance in the Circuit Court on October 26, 2022. A crucial turn of events occurred during this time when the staff member's age came under scrutiny. It was determined that she could potentially be between 18 and 21 years old.
However, a significant twist emerged during a court hearing on November 16, 2022. The staff member's lawyers presented her Ghana Card, indicating that she was only 17 years old at the time of the incident. Faced with this evidence, the Circuit Court had no choice but to discharge her from the case.
Subsequently, the case was redirected to the Juvenile Court, where fresh charges were filed. It wasn't until 2023, after the staff member turned 18, that the case returned to the Circuit Court for further proceedings.
It's worth noting that during the course of the legal proceedings in 2022, no mention was made of the alleged missing $1 million or other valuables, which were later brought up in court documents filed in July 2023.
