A representative for Alan Kyerematen's election campaign has stated that the impending Special Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party is an electoral process that does not need to take place.
Yaw Buaben Asamoa claims that the conference that will reduce the number of flagbearer hopefuls from ten to five is only an administrative exercise that will postpone the candidates' ability to campaign in advance of the delegates' congress that will take place on November 4.
He asserts that there is a requirement for constitutional amendments in order to halt the process in the years to come.
"I genuinely believe that it is unnecessary for us to have that conference at the time that we are planning to do it. In my opinion, this is nothing more than a diversion from the campaign's regular activities. It has no bearing whatsoever on the amount of popularity. According to his statement, "Perhaps in the future, as a party we will need to look at that constitutional provision and make it more flexible in order to make it significantly better."
He maintains that the procedure does not have a big role in deciding who will become the flagbearer of the party.
According to him, the party ought to have let all ten candidates go through the main delegates convention rather than reducing the number of candidates from ten to five.
"This will not be the factor that decides who will carry our flag," the speaker said. It's nothing more than a routine administrative task. In terms of establishing who has a larger fan base, it makes no difference at all. This is not a political proceeding of any kind. The party has expanded its work burdens now that it has been decentralised to 16 areas, and it is for the party to handle itself efficiently," he continued.
