As per a report from citinewsroo.com, the alleged perpetrator, who goes by the name Razack and is said to be 45 years old, is accused of committing the act on Monday, August 7th, in Nayilifond, a neighborhood located in the Northern region of Yendi.
Inspector Nicodemus Yorke, heading the prosecution, cited a violation of section 101 (2) of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).
Appearing before Judge Anthony Aduku-Aidoo, the presiding magistrate, Inspector Yorke urged for the suspect to be remanded. He emphasized that an ongoing investigation was delving into the purported crime, a request the court approved. The inspector contended that additional time was necessary for a thorough scrutiny of the available evidence and the context surrounding the alleged offense.
Razack is scheduled to make his subsequent court appearance on August 15th.
His involvement has sent shockwaves through his neighborhood, especially considering his role as a respected Muasin, responsible for calling prayers.
Switching gears, in a separate incident, an unidentified group of assailants brutally took the life of a 21-year-old fetish priest who also worked as a taxi driver in Saltpond, located in the Central Region.
The lifeless body of the victim, known as Michael, was discovered near a refuse dump within the vicinity of Saltpond Anglican Basic School, situated in the Mfantsiman Municipality.
Eyewitnesses, having only known him by the name Michael, speculate that his violent demise might be linked to his alleged involvement in theft, which had drawn the attention of numerous individuals within the community.
"We woke up this morning to the news of an individual's demise around the Saltpond Anglican Basic School area. His suspected involvement in theft within the community had garnered him many adversaries. Additionally, he practiced as a fetish priest and was known for performing various rituals. There was an instance when he stole a mobile phone and left for Accra. Subsequently, he returned to the area and reportedly committed theft in Saltpond Zongo," recounted one witness.
"He was constantly under the watchful eyes of the local residents, who had threatened him with harm whenever he was spotted. The morning greeted us with the grim sight of his lifeless remains near the refuse dump. His head bore the marks of a sharp implement, and his body bore severe injuries. At present, it's uncertain whether he was indeed engaged in theft, but his reputation within the community was far from commendable," recounted an eyewitness, according to citinewsroom.com.
Michael's lifeless body was discovered during the early hours of Tuesday, August 1, 2023, exhibiting evidence of head trauma inflicted by a sharp weapon, while his legs were bound with a rope.
