SHOCKER! MAN JAILED FOR INVOKING CURSES ON A
POLICE MAN
Ordinarily
this headline wouldn’t have gained the needed traction it is receiving now,
since jailing of People for various offences is an all-too familiar scenario in our courts. But what has raised eyebrows in this case is the
offence for which a young man resident in kasoa has been jailed for.
Our courts and legal jurisprudence is one that’s has been known to be alien to the admissibility of spiritual matters as evidence in court, so for a court of law to admit invocation of curses as an offensive conduct conducive to the breach of Peace, contraory to section 207, of the criminal and other offences act, Act 29 is one that certainly bewilds the imagination of many legal luminaries
Social
medial and Traditional media has been buzzing with wide and varied views on the
matters since the news broked, Tpical of Ghanaians, especially the uninitiated in legal circles, many People are being excessively harsh and uncharitable to
the Kasoa district court magistrate who delivered the Judgement. to many concerned Ghanaians , it is a case of travesty of Justice that
has been meted out to the Poor young man, who averred in his statement of case
Presented to the court that , he had to invoke the name of the river god as a means of defending himself , because he felt unduely targeted and
intimidated by the conduct of the policeman, amongst five
Passengers in a taxi cab that were stopped and searched.
Convener of
Fixed the Country Movement, Oliver
Barker Vormawor who first broached the story, on social media is appealing to
his colleague lawyers who are minded to join hands with him to seek Justice for
the Poor young man , who barring any appeal would unfortunately had to contend with 12 long
months in Prison with hard labour.
