Chelsea transfer news: Chelsea and Liverpool are still battling it out to sign Brighton star Moises Caicedo in the summer transfer window.
It comes after a week of intense twists and turns in the transfer saga for the Ecuadorian international, with the two Premier League rivals at the centre of it. The Blues have been following a move for months, but haven't submitted a bid that has been accepted by Brighton.
Liverpool looked to hijack it, making a £110million bid that was agreed with the Seagulls, though the player was yet to accept personal terms. It has left the door open to Chelsea as football.london understands the Blues are confident of beating the Reds to his signature.
The saga is still very open, with the narrative heating things up ahead of the two teams playing one another in the opening Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge. The match saw plenty of chaos within it as Luis Diaz opened the scoring before Mohamed Salah had a second ruled out.
It displays exactly why the teams are looking to add Caicedo to their ranks, with a presence able to break up play as well as control the tempo when playing from the back. This was reflected as much by Micah Richards as he claimed both teams needed the midfielder.
He told Sky Sports: "I think in this game, you can see why both teams are in for [Moises] Caicedo just because in transitions, there’s no one there to break the play up. You can see there’s problems on both sides so a defensive midfielder is needed for both teams."
It remains to be seen which side will win the race to sign Caicedo in the coming weeks of the transfer window, however it's clear how much of an upgrade it could be to both of them.
