According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have submitted an offer to sign Stuttgart midfielder Wataru Endo.

Endo, 30, is the captain of the Japanese national team and has made 50 appearances for his country.

After making his first-team debut for Shonan Bellmare in 2010, Endo played for the Urawa Reds and Sint-Truiden before joining Stuttgart for €1.7 million in July 2020.

Under a contract that runs until 2024, Liverpool clearly see an opportunity to sign a proven midfielder for a small fee.

According to Fabrizio Romano, an "official offer" has been made to sign Endo. Romano did not specify what fee Liverpool had brought to the table, but he said negotiations were 'ongoing'.

Endo is eager to move to Anfield as he sees it as 'the biggest opportunity of his career'.

Romano's full Twitter post read:

"Liverpool have submitted an official offer to sign Japanese midfielder Wataru End? permanently.

“Negotiations are ongoing with Stuttgart – the player wants to transfer because it is the biggest opportunity of his career.

"Surprising move by Liverpool director [Jorg] Schmadtke."

The Red Devils are hungry for midfield signings after selling Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. They signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai earlier this summer but the unexpected sale of two experienced midfielders left Jurgen Klopp on the lookout for a new signing or two.

As everyone knows, Liverpool have tried and failed to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton despite a £115m offer being accepted by their Premier League rivals.

Southampton teenager Romeo Lavia has been linked with a move to Anfield over the summer but the Red Devils have had two offers rejected by the Saints and the player is now approaching Caicedo at Chelsea.

Another player with links to Liverpool is Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat, who is said to be on Manchester United's radar.

Romano also reported from Amrabat on Wednesday night. He wrote on Twitter:

"Liverpool have now been informed of Sofyan Amrabat, as reported by AD. No formal offer has been made yet - just contact to be informed of the terms of the deal.

"No decision has been made yet, Liverpool are still exploring the market to choose their favorite new finals."
