In a significant recognition of journalistic excellence, Paa Kwesi Asare, a Ghanaian TV presenter and journalist, has been honored with the 2023 BBC News Komla Dumor Award. This award, named after the late Komla Dumor, who was a presenter for BBC World News, seeks to acknowledge outstanding journalism that brings a nuanced African narrative to the global stage.

Asare, 36 years old and the head of business news at Ghana's private TV3 channel, is the eighth recipient of this esteemed award. He is also the first Ghanaian to receive this recognition, following in the footsteps of the late Komla Dumor. Asare's seven years of dedication as one of TV3's main news anchors have been marked by his ability to explain intricate topics in an engaging and clear manner.

The award itself was established to commemorate the legacy of Komla Dumor, who tragically passed away at the age of 41 in 2014. Known for his tireless efforts to present a multifaceted perspective of Africa to the world, Dumor represented the continent's confident, astute, and entrepreneurial aspects.

The judging panel was deeply impressed by Asare's exceptional journalism skills and his knack for unraveling complex subjects in a compelling manner. As part of his prize, Asare will spend three months collaborating with BBC News teams in London, contributing across television, radio, and online platforms. During this period, he will also undergo training and mentoring from prominent BBC journalists.

Upon receiving the award, Paa Kwesi Asare expressed his gratitude and excitement, describing it as a watershed moment in his career. He acknowledged the significance of following in the footsteps of Komla Dumor, whose talent he greatly admired. Asare's victory not only reflects his personal achievement but also underscores the value of diverse and insightful storytelling in the realm of journalism.

The legacy of Komla Dumor lives on through this award, inspiring journalists like Paa Kwesi Asare to continue contributing meaningfully to the global discourse while representing the rich tapestry of Africa.
