A heavy downpour rain on Saturday, August 19, 2023 left one side of the Malla Kasoa Highway heavily flooded.
The flood waters covered half of the dual carriage road from SCC to Westhills Mall, in the Ga South Municipality, leaving it totally inaccessible for pedestrian motorist to move.
At the time this reporter got to the scene, some vehicles were unable to move, some were stuck in the mud through the flooded road, whiles many others, both private and commercial, were compelled to either turn back or park due to the severe and extreme flooding, which made it insecure and unsafe for vehicles and motorists.
Finally, the part of the road that was not flooded was used by vehicles coming from opposite ends of the road, a situation that caused serious traffic congestion.
The situation was the same from Weija barrier and its vicinity, through to the Toll Booth stretch, with parts of the road becoming extremely muddy, as a result of mudslide from the surrounding hills.
Some pedestrians who spoke to this paper expressed disappointment in the government for not paying any attention in fixing the problem once and for all, as the situation has been the same for years now.
Kojo Oppong, a shop attendant said the government does not care about our safely, so we go through this year after year. Some government officials somewhere are failing to do their work, claiming there are no funds, yet others have millions of dollars kept in their homes, doing nothing.
Miss Juliana Ofori added that the situation is the same everywhere, so until our attitudes change as a people, we will continue facing these problems every year.
Madam Benedicta Weittey blamed the situation on some members of the community that build in water ways, instead of seeking building permit from the Metropolitan Assembly before they commence with work.
