Tottenham transfer news: Eberechi Eze is a target for Spurs and their hopes of signing the attacking midfielder could have been boosted following a major Crystal Palace decision

Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze is of interest to Tottenham as Ange Postecoglou begins to finalise his plans for the remaining weeks of the summer window. The departure of Harry Kane just three days before the start of the new Premier League season left a sour taste, but four points acquired out of a possible six from challenging games against Brentford and Manchester United has seen optimism return to north London.

Spurs have already completed seven signings this summer with Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Micky van de Ven and Alejo Veliz all arriving while Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski have had their loan moves made permanent.

Links to Eze are not as concrete as the three names mentioned above, however Spurs recently received a huge boost to their hopes of signing the 25-year-old. Last season Eze was joined by Michael Olise and Wilfred Zaha as the stars in Roy Hodgson's team although the latter signed for Galatasaray on a free transfer.

However, before any signings can be made, Postecoglou is facing one more key task. "The reality of it is we can't just keep acquiring players. We've got too big a squad as it is. It affects the training, the players themselves because they all want to play and be involved," he said.

"It's not so much one has to happen for the other but our focus at the moment is trimming the squad down and seeing where that takes us in terms of reinforcements. We're assessing that on a daily basis. There's still two weeks to go in the window and I'm sure you'll see some movement."

For an engine room addition to join, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will likely be the man heading for the exit door alongside Tanguy Ndombele. Atletico Madrid are in for the Denmark international, who Spurs value at €40million (£34.1m), but the Spanish club are facing financial struggles which makes a loan more likely, with Spurs to then demand a buy obligation is included.

In defence, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have both been linked to departures with Spurs accepting a £12million from Spartak Moscow, only for the Colombian to turn down the move. Dier meanwhile has been omitted from the opening two matchday squads with an eventual exit seeming inevitable as his contract expires next summer.
