Chelsea will be looking to put a smile back on their fans' faces when they welcome Luton Town in a Premier League match on Friday. Pochettino's men suffered their first defeat of the 2023–24 Premier League season at the hands of West Ham on Sunday. Despite falling behind early in the game, the Blues had a chance to go ahead at halftime, but Enzo Fernandez missed a penalty spot after Chukwuemeka's equaliser. Michail Antonio and Lucas Paqueta then scored in the second half to earn the Hammers all three points.

Well, the Blues' next game is against newly promoted Luton Town, and they should be confident of obtaining their first win. However, Mauricio Pochettino's issues have worsened ahead of this match, with another key player picking up a severe injury over the weekend. According to the club, Carney Chukwuemeka has suffered an MCL injury, and it is unknown when he will return.

At this early stage of the season, this is undoubtedly bad news for the Blues. He would be joining Nkunku (knee), Reece James (hamstring), and Fofana (ACL), all of whom are expected to face significant spells on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Badiashile and Broja have been spotted training at Cobham on multiple occasions, and it has been rumoured that the club is planning a comeback for them against Luton Town. As of now, they are still doubtful for Friday's game.

The Possible Bumpy Ride for Chelsea This Season

The journey of Chelsea this season will be like that of the Odyssey. A topsy-turvy one at that. This is because there is so much uncertainty about the performance of the team.

The team can achieve greatness or end up in mediocrity, as they did last season. But with fresh, inexperienced blood come faint expectations.

Chelsea as a team has lost all its experienced players through mass sales and has succeeded in buying fresh and hungry players.

These players are no doubt world-class players and can hurt any team, as was seen in their performance against Liverpool on the opening day. But with the performance at West Ham, it is difficult to sustain good performances week in and week out.

It is clear that this Chelsea team will need until the second half of the season to begin to jell into Mauricio Pochettino's style of play before they can become a force to be reckoned with.

Until then, it is expected that Chelsea will constantly break the hearts of their fans for most of the rest of the season.

The team is expected to become formidable with a midfield trio of Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo, and Enzo Fernandez. The biggest challenge will be their slow start. Due to the fact that Moises Caicedo committed his first career penalty on his debut for the team and Mykhaylo Mudryk is yet to start performing as expected
