COMMUNITY
A community is a geographical area where a group of people live and share common interests,values, goals and aspirations and have a social network of relationship at the local level. With respect to community entry,it is necessary to know the characteristics, cherished values,norms,beliefs,needs and dynamics of the community involved. Effective engagement begins when a cordial relationship is built in the community. Before you can carry out a task in the community,you have to ensure that all necessary protocols are observed.
GATEKEEPERS
They are individuals or groups within the community that control or regulate access to the community. They possess the power to allow or deny access to the community. They are influential in the sense that their authority and knowledge assist external efforts to engage with the community. Building a mutual relationship with gatekeepers is helpful in gaining acceptance and support within a community. Some examples are chiefs,elders,family heads, assembly man or woman and others.
STAKEHOLDERS
They are individuals,groups or organizations who have interest in the well-being and outcome of a particular community. They are entities that maybe affected by the outcome of projects. They can be eternal or external. External stakeholders are organizations outside the community interested in the projects and interventions of the community. Some examples are government agencies,shareholders ,investors and others.Their interest could be financial,social,environmental or political. Identifying and engaging with stakeholders is important for understanding the various perspectives and interest within the community, as well as collecting support for community initiatives.
AIDE
It typically refers to assistance, resources or support provided to a community to address its needs and challenges. They also facilitate community entry. They are very knowledgeable in issues relating to the community. This can include financial assistance,technical expertise, educational programs or any form of help aimed at improving the community”s well-being.They are usually community indigene. Effective aid should be culturally sensitive,sustainable and in line with the community”s priorities.
In conclusion,successful community involves understanding the cherished values and characteristics of the community,building cordial relationship with gatekeepers,engaging stakeholders and providing aid or support in line with the community”s needs and challenges. These concepts are geared towards the betterment of the community.
