Chelsea has reportedly come to an agreement to loan Belgian national striker Romelu Lukaku to Serie A club Roma, as indicated by Gazzetta dello Sport in its report on Monday.
As per the Italian sports publication, Roma will be compensating the London-based club with an amount of 5.8 million euros for the loan deal, while the player himself is set to receive an annual salary of 7.5 million euros. According to 'Gazzetta,' Lukaku is expected to make his way to Rome on Tuesday in order to undergo a medical examination.
This transfer will bring the Belgian striker back to the company of Jose Mourinho, the manager who had previously guided Lukaku's career while coaching at Chelsea and Manchester United. Lukaku, who returned to Chelsea from Inter Milan for a fee of 115 million euros in 2021, will be making his way back to Italy where he spent last season on loan at Inter, netting 14 goals.
Lukaku's football journey has seen him go through various clubs. He initially joined Chelsea in 2011, then moved on to Everton in 2014, followed by stints with Manchester United and Inter Milan.
At Roma, Lukaku will be joining a squad that has been actively reinforcing its ranks during the transfer window. The team has secured Iranian international Sardar Azmoun on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, along with midfielders Leandro Paredes and Renato Sanches from Paris Saint-Germain, with Sanches also joining on a loan basis. In addition, Roma secured the services of Houssem Aouar on a five-year contract from Lyon in June.
Currently, Roma holds a single point from the first two rounds of Serie A matches, and the arrival of Lukaku could provide a boost to their attacking prowess and aspirations for the season ahead.
