Some Ghanaian students have been selected to pursue higher education in various Mater’s degree programs at top notch universities across Europe.
Sixty Ghanaian students have been chosen to participate in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree (EMJMD) program, an initiative of the European Union (EU) that facilitates advanced education at prominent European universities.
This year marks a significant increase from the previous year, with the number of beneficiaries rising from 45 to 60.
The EMJMD falls under the umbrella of Erasmus+, a program designed to support global educational mobility and enhance Africa's technical and higher education sector. By granting students the opportunity to study at renowned European institutions, the EMJMD aims to broaden their career prospects, provide top-tier knowledge, and cultivate a global perspective.
During a pre-departure event in Accra, Irchad Razaaly, the EU Ambassador to Ghana, emphasized the EU's commitment to being a vital education partner for Ghana. He highlighted the unique chance that Erasmus+ offers to Ghanaian youth, enabling them to acquire high-quality academic exposure during their European sojourns.
Razaaly stressed the EU's dedication to promoting diversity, mobility, and excellence in higher education, both through Erasmus+ and other educational initiatives across Africa and Ghana. The overarching goal is to nurture leaders, foster international networks, and establish a more inclusive and interconnected global community.
Expressing optimism about the impact of the scholarship, Razaaly anticipated that it would not only shape the beneficiaries' skills and character but also equip them for competitive and enriching careers. He looked forward to these experiences inspiring the students to become leaders and change-makers, ultimately contributing to the betterment of Ghana and the world.
Maamle Andrews, Chief Director of Ghana's Ministry of Education, emphasized the nation's recognition of education's role in propelling sustainable development. As a developing country, Ghana considers investing in its citizens' education, particularly the youth, as pivotal to enhancing the human capital index and achieving national objectives.
