A policeman, Sergeant Graham Saville, was struck last Thursday while trying to save a man who was electrocuted in a train terminal.

According to the Mirror News, the incident happened at the Bulpit Lane level crossing in a residential area in Balderton, near Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. He later died in the hospital, surrounded by his family.

The 46-year-old was a married father-of-two who was 'hugely respected' by his colleagues within the force at Nottinghamshire Police. Flags were flown at half-mast as tributes flooded in from senior officers and politicians.

Within days, a contribution that was raised on crowndfounder for him hit £100,000, with almost 5,000 people donating. One of those to offer support is Premier League footballer Joe Worrall, 26, after the Nottingham Forest defender lost his uncle last week.

The page read: "This is an appeal to the community in order to assist the immediate family of the fallen police officer following a terrible ordeal whereby an officer has given his life in the line of duty whilst saving the life of another individual.

"This is the epitome of policing bravery. This fund will hopefully assist in many areas of their lives as they come to terms with the tragic outcome. Hopefully, one day in time, it may help them move forward and bring them some comfort."

Officers were deployed just before 7 p.m. on Thursday over concerns for a man’s safety. Sgt. Saville, 46, was then hit by a train on the East Coast Mainline while in the line of duty. Another man, 29, was taken to the hospital after suffering non-life-threatening electrocution injuries.

Chief Constable Kate Meynell said, "Today is a day of mourning for the entire police family. Graham was a hugely respected and popular colleague, and his death in the line of duty has come as an enormous shock to us all. Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to his family, and we will do everything we can to support them through this unimaginably devastating time. It is impossible to put into words how devastating this news is for everyone who loved and respected Graham.

Head of the College of Policing, Chief Constable Andy Marsh, said: "This is devastating news, and my thoughts and condolences are with this brave officer's family, friends, and colleagues at this very sad time. It is a tragic reminder of the risks and bravery shown every day by our police officers and staff to keep the public safe."
