Brighton & Hove Albion have boldly initiated a bid to acquire the services of Barcelona's rising star Ansu Fati, as confirmed by sources to 90min.
The Seagulls, having failed to secure the signing of Mohammed Kudus and seeking a wide forward, have ventured into the prospect of recruiting Spanish prodigy Fati as an alternative solution.
Throughout the summer, Barcelona has been receptive to the idea of Fati's departure. However, the 20-year-old, a product of the club's youth system with an impressive tally of over 100 senior appearances, had previously hesitated.
Insider sources have revealed that the development of 16-year-old talent Lamine Yamal has indirectly affected Fati's status at Camp Nou, resulting in his increased consideration of a loan move for the upcoming season. While Tottenham Hotspur has expressed interest, their preference still leans towards Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson for that role. Meanwhile, West Ham, Newcastle, and Aston Villa had previously shown interest, while both Arsenal and Chelsea have been keeping an eye on the situation.
Nonetheless, Brighton has taken the lead, with head coach Roberto De Zerbi fervently attempting to sway Fati towards considering the Amex Stadium as the most fitting destination for his next career move.
Initiating discussions with both Barcelona and the player's agent, Brighton is now actively exploring the possibility of a loan arrangement. Sources within the club express a high level of confidence that an agreement can be reached and formalized.
As negotiations unfold, Brighton appears determined to secure Ansu Fati's talents for their upcoming campaign, potentially providing the young Spanish talent with a promising platform to further develop his skills and contribute to the club's ambitions.
Tottenham Hotspur have shown an interest, although their preferred option for that role remains Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson - whilst West Ham, Newcastle and Aston Villa had all shown an interest in the past. Arsenal and Chelsea are also among those who have been on alert.
However, Brighton have stepped in and head coach Roberto De Zerbi is understood to be pushing hard to convince Fati that a move to the Amex Stadium is the ideal next stop for him.
Brighton have now opened talks with Barca and the player's agent over a prospective loan and sources close to the club insist they are 'confident' a deal can be finalised.
