Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital,(KATH) Sanctioned 16 Staffs for various  offenses.

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, Ghana has taken disciplinary action against 16 of its staff members in order to promote a culture of integrity and high quality patient care. A range of sanctions were handed out to the implicated individuals, from dismissals to suspensions without pay.

According to Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, the hospital's CEO, the staff were found guilty of serious infractions including extortion of patients. He announced the disciplinary measures at a mid-year performance review conference, emphasizing KATH's commitment to maintaining discipline.

Professor Addai-Mensah stressed the importance of prioritizing patients' interests and ensuring the hospital operates with integrity. He said "We have not compromised on discipline. Sixteen staff have been sanctioned for various offenses like extortion and other reported issues. The quality assurance unit has been strengthened to investigate such matters and make recommendations for sanctions."

The disciplinary actions taken highlight KATH's zero tolerance for misconduct that negatively impacts patients or the hospital's reputation. Strict action was needed to send a message that such behavior will not be tolerated.

In addition, Professor Addai-Mensah revealed plans to renovate the aging Gee Block built in 1954 that has deteriorated without substantial refurbishment. Given KATH serves as a referral center, concerns have been raised about the state of the outdated facilities.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is leading a fundraising campaign to support the renovation which is sorely needed. Professor Addai-Mensah expressed hope that the intervention will significantly boost healthcare services in the region.

The disciplinary measures and renovation plans demonstrate KATH's commitment to both maintaining the highest ethical standards among staff and providing facilities that can support quality patient care. With the support of philanthropic leaders, they aim to restore Gee Block and other aging infrastructure to better serve the needs of Ghana's citizens.
