The court has issued a mandate instructing the Special Prosecutor to return the money seized from Cecilia Dapaah within a seven-day period.

The Accra High Court has issued a directive to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), compelling them to return money that had been confiscated from the former Minister of Sanitation, Cecilia Dapaah, within a timeframe of seven days.

This ruling came about following the OSP's seizure of funds discovered within Cecilia Dapaah's residence in Abelemkpe, which had been subjected to an ongoing investigation by the Office of Special Prosecutor.

Cecilia Dapaah has been embroiled in a legal dispute with the OSP, who initially froze her assets, including her bank accounts. Her legal troubles began as a result of an investigation into allegations of corruption and corruption-related offenses. Two of her domestic staff had previously been charged with pilfering over $1 million, along with 300,000 in cash and other valuable possessions from her Abelemkpe residence.

Concurrently, the Office of the Attorney General and the Police have been prosecuting individuals accused of embezzling funds associated with or owned by the former minister.

The OSP had submitted an application to the court, seeking confirmation of its asset freeze order on Cecilia Dapaah's properties, encompassing her bank accounts and the monies found at her residences.

Initially, reports had revealed that the Office of Special Prosecutor had frozen the assets and bank accounts of the beleaguered former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, containing substantial sums in both dollars and cedis. Documents dated August 9th further indicated that the OSP had initiated processes to secure the court's confirmation and endorsement of this administrative freeze.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor wields the authority to administratively freeze the accounts of individuals under investigation. However, to sustain these freezes over an extended period, court confirmation is required, in accordance with the powers vested in the OSP.
