Dr. Ishmael Norman, the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Institute for Security, Disaster and Emergency Studies, has voiced his strong disapproval of the actions undertaken by COP George Alex Mensah, the Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service. Dr. Norman contends that COP Mensah should have adhered to the established organizational structure of the police force when addressing his concerns.

The backdrop for this criticism centres on a recent appearance by COP Mensah before the Ad-Hoc committee convened by Parliament. This committee's mission is to probe and determine the authenticity of a leaked audio recording that allegedly unveils a conspiracy. In this recording, which surfaced on Wednesday, August 31, COP Mensah openly criticized the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, accusing him of inadequate police management.

While COP Mensah clarified that his professional relationship with IGP Dampare was not marred by personal discord, he acknowledged that there have been professional disagreements at the upper echelons of the police hierarchy. This controversy erupted when a recorded conversation appeared to feature COP Mensah, alongside senior police officials and the former Northern Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu. The discussion in question seemingly involved plans to remove the IGP from his position before the 2024 elections.

Dr. Norman's critique centers on the belief that internal disagreements and concerns within the police force should be addressed through established channels and within the framework of the organization's hierarchy. The public airing of such matters, according to him, runs contrary to established protocols and can have a detrimental impact on the reputation and functioning of the Ghana Police Service.

In summary, Dr. Ishmael Norman's condemnation of COP George Alex Mensah's actions underscores the importance of adhering to established procedures and protocols in addressing internal concerns within the police force. This recent controversy has raised questions about the handling of disagreements and disputes at the highest levels of law enforcement, prompting a broader discussion about maintaining professionalism and transparency within Ghana's law enforcement agencies.
