The National Labour Commission (NLC) has taken a significant step towards resolving the recent strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers' Association of Ghana (CETAG) by issuing an official statement on the implementation of the Arbitral Award. This statement, which comes after a meeting on August 31, 2023, outlines directives for both the government and CETAG.

In response to the NLC's directive, CETAG's leadership finds themselves at a crossroads. The NLC has made it clear that they cannot address salary issues while CETAG remains on strike, effectively placing a halt on negotiations until the strike ends. However, rather than immediately ending the strike, CETAG leaders have opted to take a responsible approach by requesting time to consult with their members. This cautious decision suggests that CETAG is considering various options for resolution, possibly indicating their willingness to explore alternatives if necessary.

It's worth noting that reports indicate that the academic calendar will not be altered due to the strike, and there will be no extensions granted. Consequently, students (level 100s to be precise since they are left with about 5 weeks from today to go home) are urged to prepare for end-of-semester exams in accordance with the 2022/2023 academic calendar. As this situation unfolds, our media team is committed to closely monitoring developments and providing timely updates to keep you informed. We will also be vigilant in delivering any official confirmation regarding CETAG's decision to end the strike.

In these uncertain times, it is essential to remain informed and patient as negotiations continue between CETAG and the government. The NLC's directives mark a significant step towards resolution, and there is hope that a mutually beneficial agreement can be reached. As we navigate these developments, rest assured that we are dedicated to delivering the latest news on this ongoing matter, ensuring that you stay well-informed throughout this period of transition and change.
