?Radiance Petroleum Limited organized a free health screening for residents of Gbawe in Accra to mark the Homowo festival. The health screening aimed to give back to the local community and improve their health and wellbeing.
Residents turned up in large numbers on Friday, September 1, 2023 for the screening which covered conditions like malaria, blood sugar levels, diabetes, hypertension and eye problems. Deputy Managing Director of Radiance Petroleum, Joseph Addai, said the company had already started several corporate social responsibility initiatives that year including donating desks to schools, constructing bridges and dredging drains in collaboration with the local assembly.
He explained that Radiance intended to launch a road safety campaign and educate the public on the safe use of liquefied petroleum gas as part of its CSR activities. Addai stated that Radiance values health highly and therefore wanted to give back to consumers through the health screening. "We want to extend our operations beyond just selling products to help our customers and the communities where we operate," he said.
Addai added that the National Petroleum Authority planned to start recycling gas cylinders in September and therefore it was timely for Radiance to educate customers on safely using liquefied petroleum gas. "We will support government efforts to ensure public safety and good health," he said.
Founder of Hill Cross Medical Services, Dr Henry Annang, urged the youth to adopt healthy lifestyles to prevent diseases. Several young men and women were diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension at the screening which he attributed to sedentary lifestyles. He advised the youth to eat well, exercise regularly and get enough rest to avoid contracting such diseases at a young age.
A beneficiary, Leticia Sackey, thanked Radiance Petroleum for the initiative. She said traveling to hospitals for healthcare was sometimes financially burdensome so the health screening was beneficial. She urged Radiance to organize the screening regularly.
Gbawe Mantse Nii Boi Kojo II also commended Radiance Petroleum for supporting the initiative. He mentioned that the Gbawe royal palace organized several activities like prayers, food donations, fashion shows, health walks, music shows and beauty pageants to mark the Homowo festival. Nii Boi Kojo II encouraged the youth to continue living in peace and harmony as displayed during the festival.
