The top tips to get over a breakup include getting rid of their belongings in your home, avoiding rebound relationships.
Research of 2,000 adults revealed that 77 percent reckon it’s best to consider a breakup as a fresh start rather than dwelling on the past, and 72 percent believe it should encourage you to push yourself to try new things.
Getting lots of sleep, reigniting old hobbies and getting friends together for a night out were other pearls of wisdom to help deal with the end of a romance.
While exactly a third think you need to focus on yourself and not how your ex is feeling, and 24 percent reckon a vacation is the best medicine.
The research was commissioned by Costa Coffee, who worked with Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott, as part of the launch of its Maple Hazel drinks range this autumn.
Respondents were speaking from experience in the study, as the average Brit has experienced three breakups in their adult life.
Seven in 10 (71 percent) thought it was important to have no contact with someone you’re moving on from, while 44 percent see dwelling on a breakup as a waste of time.
And two thirds also believed a breakup can lead to moving onto something better in the end.
It also emerged the worst phrases to hear during a breakup included “I’ve found someone else,” “I never loved you,” and “I’ve been unhappy for a long time.”
The old classic “it’s not you, it’s me” and “we can still be friends” were other phrases Brits do not want to hear during a split.
However, when moving on and dating someone new, six in 10 thought a coffee shop was a great location for a first date, according to the OnePoll data.
And 58 percent reckoned they’d pay for their date’s drink.
As autumn approaches more than a quarter (26 percent) consider the season to be a good time to start afresh and move on to better things.
Sandra Ferreira, from Costa Coffee, which is encouraging people to part ways with Pumpkin Lattes in favor of their Maple Hazel drink range, said: “Breakups can be tough, but after those initial feelings of loss, it’s often the start of moving on to bigger and better things.
“A change of season can be a great opportunity to try something different.”
