HOW TO NEGLECTING YOUR INNER CHILD

featured img

We all have an inner child that pops out at the most random times. Whether you are actively working on a childhood wound or were crying at the end of the Barbie movie, healing your inner child can be a therapeutic experience.

According to Merriam-Webster, an inner child is "the childlike usually hidden part of a person's personality that is characterized by playfulness, spontaneity, and creativity usually accompanied by anger, hurt and fear attributable to childhood experiences."

There are ways to heal those unmet needs or more vulnerable sides to yourself by allowing your inner child to come out and play. Through repetition, you'll tap into that inner voice easier and figure out how you can incorporate that childlike sense of joy and wonder into your daily life, and before you write this off for being woo-woo, bear with us! You may enjoy these activities more than you think.

Listen to That Voice Inside You

Let your inner child know they are loved and you are here to protect them! If you find yourself feeling like the holidays don't light you up the way they used to, use it as an opportunity to keep up traditions that you did when you were a kid and enjoy all the little things that made holidays so special for you. Listening to your inner child can be a transformative way and helpful to heal old wounds. And let's not forget the cutest TikTok trend of all. If you're mean to yourself, you are also being mean to little you.

Write Your Younger Self a Letter

Journaling or writing to your younger self can be a beautiful way to connect with yourself. Give little you some advice and fill them in on all your accomplishments—they would be so proud to know! Writing a letter can be a wholesome way to show how much you have grown and flourished as an adult.

Arts and Crafts

Our favorite tip! Incorporating more arts and crafts or any creative activities you did as a child that were your everything is a great way to connect with yourself. Whether you loved drawing or making collages, set some time with yourself or with friends to have an inner child play night! Host a dinner party where you and your friends draw on a paper tablecloth and eat your favorite childhood snacks and comfort meals.

Meditate

Meditation can be a great way to quiet things down and reconnect with your inner needs and desires. Through meditation, you can get a clearer picture of what you want in your life and listen to that voice inside you.

Leave Room for Exploration

Allow your inner child to do what it loves best—explore! Allow room for creativity and curiosity. Don't get stuck in the same routine. Allow opportunities for growth and to do things that excite you.
