The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi has refuted claims that the alleged fake doctor apprehended at the hospital on Monday attended to any patients.

According to KATH's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kwame Frimpong, the suspect was not found in any patient care area within the hospital and thus could not have seen or treated any patients, contrary to circulating rumors.

The incident unfolded when a hospital director encountered the suspect on the walkway behind the Accident and Emergency Centre (A&E). The suspect, wearing a scrub suit with the name "Dr. Williams Cyril Cohen," claimed he was passing through to deliver something to someone. When questioned about his identity and workplace, the suspect attempted to flee. Suspicious of the situation, the director raised an alarm and the fleeing suspect was apprehended and handed over to the police.

KATH emphasized that its team-based patient care system ensures that only accredited staff can access and see patients at designated service points. The hospital also utilizes an Electronic Medical Records System (EMRS) accessible only to authorized staff with unique passwords, guaranteeing that non-staff cannot assess or treat patients.

The statement assured the public that no assessments, diagnoses, reviews, or prescriptions could be conducted by non-staff. It cautioned against dealing with individuals outside accredited service areas, advising anyone approached by such individuals to report them to the nearest security guard.

KATH clarified that contrary to circulating rumors, the suspect was not found providing care to patients at any point within the hospital. The details provided in the statement make it clear that the suspect was apprehended on a walkway behind the A&E centre after giving unsatisfactory answers about his identity and purpose. KATH's team-based care system and EMRS ensure that only authorized staff can access patient information and provide treatment. The hospital has assured the public that no harm came to any patients as a result of this incident, and it remains vigilant against potential security threats. Going forward, KATH urges the public to report any suspicious individuals encountered within the hospital.
